Container repair, a model for sustainable business
By extending the lifespan of containers and incorporating environmentally friendly practices, our group is committed to a sustainable approach that reduces our customers’ carbon footprint whilst helping to conserve resources.

Our depots are committed to reducing fossil fuel consumption
Arnal has proactively carried out its carbon footprint assessment for 2023, a commitment we have extended to the whole group in 2023, with an ambitious target of reducing our GHG emissions by 25 per cent by 2030:
- Our depots are gradually replacing fossil fuels with biofuels derived from organic materials. By producing and consuming less CO₂, these renewable fuels contribute directly to reducing our carbon footprint.
- In 2024, our Le Havre depot introduced France’s first fully electric container handler, an innovation that prevents 60 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
- Our programme to ‘hunt down’ unused engines also reduces unnecessary fuel consumption on our machinery.

Connecting our depots to France’s largest ports via rail
At Arnal, the challenge is clear: to rethink logistics flows in order to gradually reduce the proportion of road transport in favour of rail. The aim is to link our depots more directly to major French and international ports, whilst reducing the number of lorries on the roads. In practical terms, this modal shift should enable us to replace up to 25 per cent of lorries with five trains a week, equivalent to 127,000 tonnes of goods transported by rail. This represents a major step forward in reducing CO₂ emissions and air pollutants, whilst enhancing the logistical competitiveness of our sites.

Wastewater recycling
Inside our tank-washing basins, natural bacteria break down the biodegradable fraction of the effluent. This creates a virtuous cycle: the bacteria grow and consume more of the carbon-based pollutants contained in the effluent. Our facilities comply with ICPE standards and are regularly audited (SQAS).
